Advocacy Projects

In my Spring 2021 and Spring 2022 undergraduate Human Rights class, students not only learned about human rights standards and abuses around the world but also explored failures to respect human rights close to where they live. Most importantly, they took part in advocating for change.

They selected a local human rights issue (at the city, state, or national level) and called for a change in the public response to the issue through four sequential assignments: an infographic, a blog post, a letter to a public official, and a podcast. The fantastic results of some of these projects are linked below.

If you are interested in learning more about the project and/or implementing it in your own classes, you can download the most recent versions of the assignment and rubrics I used here. (I just ask that you give me credit for developing the materials. Iā€™d also love to hear how it goes!)

All students gave their consent to share their work on this site.
